about
"Are We" was ripped from the heart. The song's seeds were laid in the morning light after a sleepless night as a soon-to-be ex showered nearby. Those seeds, torn from Nat Osborn, were carefully crafted with songwriting partner Aimee Bayles into the slinkingly groovy, intimate yet powerful ballad that is "Are We".
The song was recorded in largely in January of 2020. Thankfully most of the tracking was done before the pandemic hit. After some time away, we came back to it in Fall of 2020 when we began a long and meticulous mixing process. Produced by Kiyoshi Matsuyama, engineered by Danielle Warman, and mastered at Gateway Mastering, we're incredibly excited about the sonic quality and so happy this it finally out in the world.
lyrics
Truck roars down the street
Front wheels slam, brakes screech
It’s 4am, I can’t sleep
That’s not much like me
Time feels slick, molten
Are your eyes closed or open
I used to know always
Hold you close to me
Every night the great divide seems to grow a half inch wider
Scenes replay in my head
Can’t unsay what we said
The memories keeps fading
Like a dream after waking
There’re no lies, just your eyes turning from mine and hiding
Every night the great divide seems to grow a half inch wider
I’m not wrong
And you’re not wrong
but we’re not right, are we?
The nightingale’s song fades
I hear the lark, day break
Light grows slow, creeping
I feel you not sleeping
Bedsheets shift, heart skips
Feel your side’s weight lift
I’m paralyzed in bed
This song forms in my head
There’re no lies, just your eyes turning from mine and hiding
Every night the great divide seems to grow a half inch wider
I’m not wrong
And you’re not wrong
but we’re not right, are we?
I’m not gone
And you’re not gone
But we’re not here, are we?
I’m not wrong
And you’re not wrong
but we’re not right, are we?
